Solar energy fed directly into the district heating network
"Heating strategy 2020" - new Stadtwerke Greifswald operations building
In its "Heating Strategy 2020", Stadtwerke Greifswald set itself the goal of supplying the Hanseatic city of Greifswald with climate-neutral district heating for the long term. This transformation process also includes the use of solar energy. In 2022, a four-hectare solar thermal plant was completed in the city area on Helmshäger Berg. In order to feed the water heated by solar energy into the city's district heating network, a transfer station was built on the Stadtwerke site at "An der Jungfernwiese 8". This is housed in a new operations building, which was handed over after the installation of the technical systems in September 2022.
HAB was awarded the contract to construct the entire building, including the foundations. The result is a functional two-storey machine shop measuring 18.36 metres long and 12.36 metres wide. Vertically laid thermal wall elements with a mineral wool core were used for the bordeaux-red coloured walls (to match the existing building). The new building is energy-optimised thanks to a warm roof structure, mineral wool insulation panels and bituminous roof sealing.
HAB fitted the factory building with aluminium windows and doors. The construction components supplied and installed by HAB for the two-storey, nine-metre-high hall also include a full-surface second level. This accommodates the technical systems, allowing unhindered access to the machines and systems on two levels.
A total of 52 tonnes of steel were used for the factory building. Around 110 cubic metres of concrete were poured for the foundation.
